So Far October Sucks
Well, it's been a while since I've posted here the return of Confessions of a Sports Junking has inspired me to jump back into blogging again. In about an hour I will suffer through watching the White Sox play game 4 of their ALDS series against the Tampa Bay Rays. It sucks because I know the Twins would be there if it wasn't for a coin flip and a hanging change-up to Jim Thome. For the most part the last few weeks have completely sucked. The Purdue Boilers stink, the Twins missed the playoffs, the Cubs got swept, and the Vikings are the same old crap we've seen for the past 5-6 years. I was able to squeeze in a trip to NY with CSD72 and another friend for a visit to Shea & Yankee Stadiums before they are both torn down. Hopefully all of this terrible play by all my sports teams will bring some new luck for the winter teams like the Boilers Basketball teams and the Chicago Blackhawks.

New IU Head Coach
Ok, lets just get one thing clarified right now. I don't like IU. As a Purdue alum it's just something that is engrained into your psyche, but more than that I haven't liked IU ever. Even when growing up in Minnesota I still hated IU. But, when one of your rivals hires a new coach it is news worthy.
There will be a lot said by IU faithful about Tom Creen and how he is going to turn the program around, but all of this has been said before. I'm not here to bash the IU program (that's just too easy right now), but needless to say this is going to be quite a challenge for Coach Creen. IU's program is, putting it lightly, in a tough spot right now. After the mess left by Kelvin Sampson this team basically quit the last month of the season. D.J. White is gone, Eric Gordon is likely leaving for the NBA and Jamarcus Ellis and Armon Bassett were just dismissed from the team for disiplinary reasons. On top of the possiblity of losing their entire starting lineup from last season the Hoosiers are potentially facing additional penalties from the NCAA this summer after the final decision on the Kelvin Sampson investigation. Now, even with my disdain for all things cream and crimson I still find myself hoping that IU is able to turn this around. The situation that IU is in doesn't help the image of the Big Ten and a powerful national program in the conference only boosts the rest of the teams as well.
IU needs to get this situation under control. Ever since Bobby Knight left IU the basketball program has been sliding down hill. Yes I know that Mike Davis took them to the championship game, but other than that IU has been making sportscenter more for negative press that positive.
Coach Creen will have a lot on his plate right from the get go. Assuming Gordon leaves IU is now without 81% of their scoring and 69% of their rebounding from last season. They are also in serious jepordy of losing their recruits for next year.
My best wishes go out to Coach Creen. I just hope they continue to finish behind Purdue every year.

The Most Wonderful Time of The Year!
Well not really, I guess that's reserved for Christmas, but this really is a great time of the year for sports fans. You have the NCAA tournament for the next 2 weeks, baseball's opening night is tonight, The Masters is in 2 weeks, and the Frozen Four is in 2 weeks. There was plenty of action last night....
(1) North Carolina - 78, (4) Louisville - 74
I know what you're thinking, Louisville was a #3 seed and I got the score all messed up. Acutally this was the score from women's NCAA tournament last night. I didn't watch a minute of the game, but I thought it was interesting that the two schools faced each other in both tournaments last night.
NCAA Hockey
So far Michigan and Notre Dame have advanced to the Frozen Four with the final 2 teams to be determined today. Wisconsin will play North Dakota and Miami (Ohio) takes on Boston College. I try to follow WCHA Hockey during the season and I do my best to watch the Frozen Four. I'm a little bummed because the Minnesota Gophers lost last night to Boston College. The Gophers really turned things around at the end of the season. At the end of the regular season the were not expected to get invited to the NCAA tournament. After a run to the WCHA Final Five championship the secured their berth in the tourney only to be sent off to Worchester, MA to face the Boston College Eagles in the 1st round. Anyways, the Gophers lost so now I have to root for the winner of the North Dakota/Wisconsin match up as they will be the only remaining WCHA representative. I can't believe I just said that I was going to root for one of these teams. North Dakota is really good, Miami (Ohio) held down the top spot for a good portion of the year, but they have slipped lately and needed overtime to take down Air Force last night. Michigan is the odds on favorite and I think they will again take home the championship. Here's an interesting little twist to the North Dakota/Wisconsin matchup later today. The game is being played in Madison, WI. North Dakota is the #1 seed in the region and Wisconsin is the #3, but Wisconsin will have a huge home ice advantage. Welcome to the way every other NCAA Division 1 championship works other than football and basketball.

Wow, North Carolina is good and UCLA put together their best game of the tournament so far. I didn't watch much of the UCLA/Xavier game since I was watching the Minnesota/Boston College Hockey game, but from what I can gather the game was never in question. I was able to catch the end of the UNC/Louisville game. When I turned on the game it was only a 4 point game as Louisville had mounted a big comeback. Then the wheels came off and Tyler Hansbrough took over. I really hate North Carolina, but I just can't help but love Hansbrough. I'm really looking forward to today's games I think Memphis falls today to Texas. I know this is the popular pick just because no one believes in Memphis, but I really like Texas. The Kansas/Davidson matchup should be fun. Stephan Curry has been just amazing for Davidson, but I think the ride ends today. Kansas just has too many weapons.
I'm really not sure where this whole blog thing is going to lead, but I'm going to try to post a couple times a week and see if I have any fun doing it.
